Abyss explores the quiet depth of inwardness. Seen from behind, the figure turns away from the viewer, inviting contemplation rather than disclosure. The bowed posture and enveloping darkness create a space where longing, solitude, and presence coexist without explanation.

Created from life, the portrait is less concerned with likeness than with the experience of another person's presence. Layers of rich brown, earth, and luminous colour build an atmosphere in which the figure emerges gradually, allowing emotion to remain felt rather than narrated.

Part of the Longing in Brown Pastels series, Abyss reflects on the dignity of interior life and the silent worlds each person carries within them.
